New app lets you get petrol delivered straight to your car

A new South African app has been launched that brings fuel directly to your vehicle.

The Refuel app made its debut earlier this year but strict lockdown regulations stunted its inception. The app has now started to gain traction and news of its availability to the South African market has become all the talk!

Founders Ricky Luntz and Craig Dogon have designed a “Refuel” truck that works in conjunction with the app. Currently, the truck is only servicing Johannesburg and Pretoria, with the aim to expand to Cape Town and Durban next.

The new venture allows customers to order fuel via the app. The fuel is then delivered to your vehicle. Its intent is to save consumers the tedious task of filling up at a petrol station.

According to Luntz, there is only one truck on the road at the moment, although they are currently busy with the construction of the second one. The goal is then to expand the fleet to 10 in the first half of 2021, and potentially 10 more thereafter.[1]

The Refuel truck has been custom-designed to feature two containers carrying 1,000-litre tanks – one with petrol and one with diesel.

The app works by matching a vehicle’s registration to the order. It then uses a vehicle tracking system so that users can monitor the delivery and track the route of the truck. Users will receive a notification once the applicable vehicle has been filled and the order is complete.

The cost per litre of petrol matches filling station prices, with the addition of a R20 service charge. Payments are made via the app’s credit card facilities.

Focusing on the future, Luntz and Dogon plan to add vehicle maintenance services such as tyre pressure and oil checks to their business. And, while they are currently only delivering to companies and office workers, they’ll be expanding their offerings to residential users in time.
